Introduction to Zen meditation with practical exercises
What is Zen? – Very briefly explained.
Zen is a form of meditation that originated in India, was formed in China and further developed in Japan and Korea. Since the middle of the 20th century, it has also been accepted in the West. Zen is rooted in Buddhism, but is also practiced with great benefit by many Christians and other spiritual seekers.
The central exercise of Zen is sitting in silence. Sitting in silence makes you aware of your own existence and opens you up to the whole of reality. This is a way to realize your own self, your true self. This realization of the self means surrender, the realization of the self is at the same time a surrender of the self.
In Zen, the practice of meditation is always integrated into “normal” life. Those who follow the path of Zen do not rise above the problems, complications and joys of everyday life, but live in the midst of the fullness of life. From the practice of sitting, greater freedom can flow into this fullness of life.
