The grand narrative from myth to method

Lecture with discussion

Where does scientific thinking originate – and where does it lead us? The speaker goes way back in history. He takes a look at the beginnings of the natural sciences, at major upheavals and lingering questions. From the heliocentric view of the world to quantum physics, from the theory of creation to the theory of evolution and genetic engineering.
At the center are the thought and idea of wanting to explain the world rationally. Who shaped this path? How did the idea develop? Who and what stood in the way? And how did power, religion, society and technology shape science? The aim is to gain a fundamental understanding of the historical roots of modern science and a feel for its dynamics.
